I play open lines against the Sicilian and try to endeavor to understand them. Whenever I look back at those games where I faced the Kahn (Paulsen) I can only smile at my ignorance :-)

I have used the Rossolimo as a back up system but in total honesty I am not yet convinced of its value...

Yes Alopinto Ryan is my son. He can be credited with recindeling my love for the game after an 18 year hiatias. I'm enjoying the beatings I have been giving him over the board but am smart enough to realize that him being 19 years old and full of piss and vinegar that I better enjoy them now because I don't think I'm going to be able to do it for long. a.k.a. Ryan, the first important thing to remember when playing e4 (known as "the open game") When playing this, remember to open lines for attack and activate pieces quickly, using the pawn on e4 as a possible pawn lever for quick attack on king

A good way to avoid the main lines of the Sicilian is as follows:

1.e4 c5 2.Nc3 (or 2.f4) Nc6 3.f4

This is known as the Grand Prix Attack.
