Razoman - Thankyou. If I understand you correctly, when losing I should resign it is not honarable to simply wait a week and lose on time.
I requests more opinions on this question of is it impolite to lose on time instead of resigning
richerby - consider the case were I have 53 games in progress and I hope an additional 3 games will end before the next round begins.
I have completed several games recently my total of unfinished games is now below 50. I have non chess obligations that require me to cut back on QueenAlice play for a while. Hence I am avoiding new games. However, once I have fulfilled these obligations the 50 game rule will curtail my tournament enrollments. For this topic it does not matter what my motive is (either tournament eligibility or a need to reduce my chess time) The issue is how much do I value my perfect record regarding avoiding time defaults.

At 2000, I think your motivation and focus should be on the quality of your games not on the quantity of games. This will help you maintain and improve category.

razoman - At 2000 I am better that most of the players in my tournament. Continue improvement requires practice against strong opponents. Should I lose my first game I will be paired down. Hence my second round opponent will be considerably weaker. Your advice implies I should time defualt my second game if I lose the first.
