alib2004: I can't reduce the number of rounds, enough rounds are needed to avoid several players tied in the top position.
SengTeoh: playing 2 games is something that I considered, but I'm not sure about how to handle the pairings, as the swiss system is meant for OTB games so it only allows one game at a time. This is something that I will think about and probably implement for a future tournament, I don't think I have enough time to come up with a good solution. Regarding the pairings, I decided to do them by random this time, the standard pairing scheme makes more sense for smaller number of participants, with 150+ people and 6 rounds I think most people will find their correct place in the ranking with any pairing scheme.
catalan: I won't have time to implement the 30+1 time controls, but I could set the time to 30 days for the whole game (for each player) so all games in a round should finish in 2 months maximum (could be more if someone takes vacation days). About your second idea, I think the site is not ready to accept real-time play, the server in which this site is hosted will not be able to handle 150+ people refreshing their pages all at the same time.
To summarize, I see two possible changes, we either change the time controls to 3 days per move, or to 30 days per game. If anybody feels strongly about one or the other please post your opinion, I will make a decision in a few days.

3 days/move seems more practical.
I'm from the east (Philippines). If my opponent is from the west (say U.S.), it's very likely that my opponent is asleep while I make my moves and vice versa. Given the time zone difference, it's not realistic to hope for better than 1 move/day, despite best efforts from both players.
Seen this way, the 30 days/game time control will put unjust pressure on both players to finish the game in less than 30 moves or risk losing by forfeit.

Hello: I agree with the 3 days/move rule.

I agree with Duncan, 3 days/move gives you always some time, so you don't have to be continously checking if you opponent have moved.

Hello ... Personally prefer 3d/m than 30 days/all as Duncan explains quite well.
