El estadounidense Robert "Bobby" Fischer, campeón del mundo de ajedrez entre 1972 y 1975, murió hoy en Reykjavik, Islandia, a los 64 años, según informó oficialmente la radio nacional islandesa.
Fischer había nacido 9 de marzo de 1943 en la ciudad de Chicago y se consagró campeón al vencer al soviético Boris Spassky en el denominado "Match del Siglo". El ex campeón poseía la nacionalidad islandesa y era un refugiado político, perseguido por traición en su país natal.
El brillante ajedrecista, criado en el barrio neoyorquino de Brooklyn, fue buscado por las autoridades estadounidenses por jugar una partida de revancha contra Spassky, su rival durante la Guerra Fría, en Yugoslavia, pese a las sanciones internacionales que pesaban sobre ese país.
A los 15 años se convirtió en el Gran Maestro más joven de la historia en alcanzar tal grado tras ocupar el quinto puesto en el Internazional de Potoroz, en la ex Unión Soviética.

Quisiera sumarme a este pequeño homenaje que le estamos haciendo a un grandísimo jugador (para muchos el mejor de la historia del ajedrez). Como un artista del tablero que fue, nos quedarán para siempre sus obras de arte, sus partidas de ajedrez. Y no me resisto a hacerle un guiño de complicidad al pequeño Bobby, y digo pequeño porque con trece añitos elaboró su obra maestra, borrando del tablero al bueno de Donald Byrne que llegaría a ser maestro internacional.
Descanse en paz Bobby Fischer y deleitemonos una vez más con esta impresionante partida.
P.D.: Si alguien sabe como transformar el formato pgn de la partida para visualizarla en un tablero le estaré muy agradecido.
