I just completed a 2-round tournament where I drew 2 games with my only opponent for the round. Since my opponent has a rating 6 POINTS!! higher than mine, he has been declared the tournament winner. This is illogical, but then again that is my opinion. Only way to see my point of view, would be to struggle through the two rounds against strong opponents to truly evaluate my opinion of this unfair rule.

Why does the tie have to be broken anyway? What's wrong with having joint winners?

The higher rated player is declared winner when there's a tie-break? I never met this rule before in CC. That's not only irrational as the performance of the lower rated player is better than the one of the higher rated, that's unfair too. I already said that, so if ever I meet the same conditions here I promise I'll resign against the lower rated player before it comes to the tie-break.

We're having a private tournament right now, and if it ends up being won with this new tie-break rule we will likely ignore the official result and organise our own play-off game between the players that tied. It is crazy that the player with the highest rating would win by default. Imagine if FIFA announced they were doing away with penalty shoot-outs at the World Cup, and instead all drawn games would automatically be awarded to the team ranked higher...!!!

Well, it's how the world championship is decided. That is, in the event of a tied match the top guy retains the title.
