Some of us use books or online info for openings. That's pretty well accepted for correspondence chess. Alice even has some built in.

From the "about this site" page:
"You cannot use a computer or computer program to evaluate or analyze a game. However, you may use computers for record keeping. It is also allowed to consult chess books and opening databases."
That's pretty typical for most turn-based sites. So, printed or online opening material, or endgame books are ok, but engines or tablebases are not.
Offhand, I only know of ICCF allowing engine use, but there may be others.

Endgame books? I wouldn't think that would be allowed; I wouldn't think they should be, either. Just an opinion, of course.

I think they should be.. otherwise it would be like saying, you can't learn about endgames while you have ongoing games on the site. how do you draw the line between learning for a game and learning for any other reason, when a game goes on for a month or more?
