When ratings are provisional, they can go down after a win (at least according to the ELO formula most organizations use). If that is not true here, it will inflate the ratings.

I recall this thread:

Thanks for the link. It seems the consensus was that QA ratings typically run 200-250 points above OTB. However, that thread did not address how QA ratings compare to similar sites.

I understand that ratings comparisons from pool to pool are of limited value. Nevertheless, there are rating pools (sites and organizations) where the ratings are far out of step with some of Arpad Elo's core assumptions.

I'm new to this site, and am trying to get a sense of things here. My initial observations suggest to me that the ratings are grossly higher here than at similar sites, and that this condition may be at least partly a consequence of irregularities in the implementation of Elo's formulas.

Is there a way of standardizing these ratungs similar to having a standard meter for comparing lengths? Maybe use a chess engine with a designated or agreed rating. Just a thought.

Well, I think it's a "much to do about nothing" topic.

To be and stay at the top you must play well, period. Your rating - well, it's good for the ego but ability is the ONLY thing that can keep your rating up. Sure, the ratings are a bit higher here but QA is still a relatively young website.

RedHotPawn is quite the opposite - the ratings do not reflect anything near correspondence ratings, as they are much too low.

My rating at RHP is near 1800. My USCF corr rating is 2030, though I haven't played any USCF corr games since the early '90s. My rating here is at about 2100 and rising.

I certainly don't think they need to be "fixed" here though I'm absolutely sure others disagree. To those folks I say, if you want a true rating and that is all that matters to you then ICCF corr or email tournaments are for you. Please refrain from trying to fix the rating system of every chess site you play at. Miguel, I'm sure, has enough to do as it is.

Can we all just get along?! :-(O)
