I have Roman Dzindzichashvilli's DVD (#5 in Mastering Chess Series) on an opening repertoire for white, and Keene and Jacob's book "An Opening Repertoire for White." They both recommend the Queen's Gambit. Now to my question.
In playing against the KID, they both show d4 and c4, of course. However, Dzindzi says to move the e-pawn to e3, while Keene & Jacobs recommend e4.
I'm looking for your preferences, and reasons for those preferences. I think this could open some good conversation and analysis.
Thanks in advance,
Tom Ewald

i don't really play the queen's gambit but i see e4 as aggressive move and e3 as defensive move. it depends on your comfort level. One of the players here that i have seen like Nephi_R play e4 and have had success against me so far.

I'm not looking for success against you, alib2004...just normal mortals. ;-)
I see that e4 is more aggressive; I don't see a reason for not playing it, I guess. Is e4 more solid defensively?

e4 is practically one the best opening moves. Does the saying "The best defence is offence." apply here? :j

Void, are you talking about 1. e4, or 1. d4 2. c4, followed by 3. or 4. e4 for white?

I dont think e4 is better than e3
after pushing e4, u r playing into black opening choice.. attack the center from the flank
e3 is much more positional, concentrating on the eventual open c file...
