I don't think he had the chance to exchange. In fact, whenever he got the chance, he did! Have you analyze this game later with a computer? Was your oponent lost after 12. Bxh7?

Nope, Bxh7 was a blunder. The game is -5 to -7 from 14..Qxe5 through to 24..Bxg5 The game was still at -4 until 29..b5? when Kg8 was actually forced.
By exchanging down I meant things like Qg6->Qh6 to chase the queen away.

You are perfectly right! I only saw the game in a superficial manner. Of course 29. ...Kg8 was forced, and then Black is solid. Thanks for your input!
