If you are surprised by your opponents move, you are not paying close enough attention to the fact that you are playing against an opponent. |
I used to think that if the opponents move surprised me then they have blundered.

Most of my opponents' moves surprise me to some degree. I expect that. The worst is how often my own moves surprise me each time I return to the board.

Mobility of the piece is the deciding factor of its efficiency and that mobility is the highest criterion by which to judge the merits (or demerits) of the operations. Author unknown but I believe it may be Edward Lasker.
