I want to try something new. I am thinking of the Nimzo-Indian and the Queen's Indian Defense. These are openings I have had my eye on and plan to try out at QA. If you are playing me I may be a soft target!!
What are your thoughts on these two highly esteemed opening systems?
Does anyone use them?
Thanks.

I just switched to them myself; in fact I just won two games using the QID. I find it to be extremely solid with excellent (EXCELLENT) attacking chances.

Depends what you are switching from, and what style of game you want. I play Nimzo, my main problems with it involve not being able to break the strong centre, or breaking up the centre just to the advantage of whites bishop pair. You need a good understanding of bishop vs knight, and depending on lines you need to be able to play IQP positions or positions where your main source of counterplay is pressure against doubled c-pawns.

I haven't played alot of games with the QID yet but so far any nimzo chances are getting shut down by a3.

If you mean 3a3 then depending on your style you will counter with d5 or c5 either immediately or within a short time.
If you mean a3 after Bb4 then you must trade or you lose too much time. This is why you have to be comfortable with the imbalances above (BvN / doubled c-pawn)

Right. I mean prior to Bb4 as prophylaxis.
I dunno, I think I have been of a mind to fianchetto the bishop first and then do c5 if it still makes sense at that point.
I'm thinking that if I do d5, I'm risking ending up with a closed game with my bishop blocked out...
Are there FEN tags too?
