That second game is very intriguing. I thought that blacks mistake was on move thirteen, but the comp seems to think that black has problems after 8 Re8... either that or the Bd6 Nbd7 don't mesh well because the temporarily hanging bishop is subject to tactics.

Searching through an online gm database suggests that no masters in that database had played Re8. The results suggest that 6..Nc6 or 5..Be7 are strong.

Wikipedia says that arguments have been going on about that game over a significant period of time.
I obviously agree with you about move 13.
Right, in fact I'm playing a game right now where Be7 alone saved Black from a vicious mating attack.

This is not exactly easy to see as the queen appears to be "buffered" behind two of White's pieces. |
If the sequence dxe5, Bxh7+ is "not exactly easy to see", you need to sharpen your tactical skills. I suggest you pick up a copy of Fred Reinfeld's 1001 Brilliant Ways to Checkmate and 1001 Winning Chess Sacrifices and Combinations, probably in that order. Your rating will thank you for it. :)
