Can we all give up on the phrase 'ground-zero mosque'? For pity's sake, it's not at ground-zero and it's not a mosque.

Islamic Community Center Build is not on the ground zero, but this is very close. |
It's about half a kilometre from where the Twin Towers were. There's already an Islamic centre about 200m further away in the same direction. Indeed, that one has been there since 1970, which is before the Twin Towers were completed.
Islamic community center Build is not a mosque but they will pray there. |
People pray in their own houses, too!
That´s very strange. This is not a war? Islamic radicals against Americans? |
The cultural center is not being built by Islamic radicals. The project is led by a man who has four times visited the Middle East on behalf of the U.S. State Department, during the presidencies of both George W. Bush and Barack Obama.

There are mosques and Islamic centers in the area already. This building is WAY too close to ground zero. It's an in-your-face from those pushing it. They are welcome to build their centers elsewhere. They're just trying to show the world how weak the US is and how strong Islam is. Even if the murderers were not "correct" Muslims (and I am not conceding that point), they still did their deeds in the name of that religion. If some jerks did something similar claiming to do it in the name of Christianity, I would NOT back the idea of putting a church there. It would be incredibly rude and insensitive.

*boggle* Gil, you fear Islam out of ignorance.
You fear Islam because of the crusades, a series of wars initiated by Christians.
You fear Islam because of the King of Syria, a man called Faisal bin Hussein who ruled for 138 days in 1920. There has never been another King of Syria.
You fear Islam because of the partition of Pakistan from India. A partition which was imposed on the subcontinent by Britain, a Christian country.
Yes, any Muslim is potentially a radical. But so is any Christian. So is left-handed person or anybody else. Please learn to distinguish Islam from radicalism and learn not to judge a whole group of people by the worst people in that group. If you wish to judge Islam by Ahmedinejad, will you also judge Christianity by Mugabe and Buddhism by Hirohito?

I didn't want to comment here because it can only go badly, but to me it just seems to show there are some americans who are willing to drop the principles of their own constitution when it doesn't suit them.
