The idea of starting the next round early is a good one but possibly not worth the complexity. Also, some will have issues with this (e.g. unexpected start of 2nd round while still playing first).
Rather, with private (especially fast) tournaments, the organizer should have the option of not allowing vacation time. One enters at their own risk! If you are the type of player to take long vacations where somehow you are not near a computer to play your games, don't enter such a tournament.

Perhaps an alternative would be to allow private tournament organisers the options to disallow the holiday adjustment at the time of tournament creation.
