The problem with trading your knights for you opponets bishop is you leave him with knights. That he me know how to use and you dont know how to defend. If you trade your bishop for his nights your left with pieces that you arent skilled in their use. Best to trade N vs N

Physie, I would say "Better to trade N vs N", and "Best to learn how to use the N". :-D

I read somewhere once, that the difference between the Knight and all the other chess pieces is that they all move in straight lines, whereas the Knight moves in a curved line.

An eighth of a circle, to be exact. Consider the Knight when developed to f3: f3-g5-f7-d8-b7-a5-b3-d2-f3. Yes, that's a big circle; combined with the grid pattern of a chessboard this is easily overlooked. (As a child I always thought the Knight did not as much jump the other pieces but rather snuck inbetween them.)

But if the Knight, and only the Knight, is the piece that gives you difficulty, perhaps some exercise in non-linear thinking might help?

If the knight were my only problem, I'd be a whole lot better player than I am. It's just the one whose movement I have the most trouble envisioning a move or two into the future.

BTW, Bobby Fischer described the knight as moving straight one move and then diagonally on the next.

I have often been complimented on my circular logic. :-(O) I might be able to help.

Whenever possible I seek an early exchange of Queens. For example 1. e4 d6 2.Nf6 Nc3 3.d4 e5 4. de de 5.Qxd8 Kxd8 Black has equalized. But as Black I have played this position 100's of times. That gives me an advantage. I am in the process of become an excellent player of Queenless position. Maybe you should welcome positions that emphasize knights in you less important games..
