The way I took your question was how many possible score outcomes were possible for the four players. I have no idea what the math would be but by coding the problem an answer is fairly easy if one knows the constraints.

I can only see three so let me know if there is one more. The three would be ... the total points must always be 24, no two players can score more than 20 and no player can score more that 12. It seems like there should be a useful rule for any three players but I can't think of it.

Assuming there isn't one, there are 1289 possible outcomes. For example, if player A loses all his games, there are 61 possible outcomes for the other three players.

Each player has 6 possible outcomes in his 3 games as white.

There are 4 players
If we only consider each players score as white and ignore black there are

OOOPs 6^4 possible outcomes 1296 possible outcomes not 24 ( I feel silly)

Once we determine all the white outcomes we have determined the black outcomes

1296 is our final answer

So we only disagree by 7 outcomes.

I made another error. there is only one way to score 6 points but more than one way to score 4 points. Again what you consider outcome needs to be defined.

There are 12 games each game has 3 possible results 3^12=513,441 possible outcomes. But this appproach defines A beats B with white but losses as black as a different outcome than A loses with white and wins with black

phystutor, your answer doesn't seem to be right because it doesn't take into account that the outcome is the same if you take any subset of the players and swap colours in the games within that set. For example, beating somebody with white and drawing with black gives the same outcome as drawing with white and beating them with black.

It may be that there's no way to calculate this, short of trying all the possibilities in a way similar to Blutigeroo's.

If an outcome is determined only by the number of points each player has we get 6^4 = 1296 but some outcomes are more likely than others.

Which solution do you think is wrong
