Richerby,

It is curious that endgames are played so poorly. I rank in the top 4.5% of US tournament chess players. There are less than 2200 active chess players in the us better than me. However I am making mistakes with posiotions that have only 3 pawns. I heave never progressed passed the first chapter (pawns) of a serious endgame manual. Yet my peers think I am good at endgames. I am convinced that studying endgames is the next step in my chess improvement.

There are only 2691 rated players in the USA.

I was refering to USCF the following stats copied from USchess.org
Current Ranking Rank as of 2012-03-01 Percentile
Overall Ranking 2185(T) out of 48237 95.5
State Ranking (NY) 293(T) out of 4906 94.1

My problem is my open games arent being selected. Maybe becuase would be training partners dont know how to post positions using FEN
