When I direct an otb tournament, I decide the pairings. After I psot the pairings it is up to the players to play their games. theoretically that should be possible here. In practice when I post the pairings only a fraction of the games happen. Adding the concept of endgames makes it seem unrealistic. I am content with a simpler goal. trying to get more people to select the endgames I post and trying to get people to post endgames.
So How about you select one of the endgames I have posted.

The idea would not be to play out 'theoretical draws' but to have a number of positions which give chances (maybe) for both sides. Perhaps, you would get each of these positions once as white, once as black. |
That wouldn't work because you'd be able to use what you learnt in one of the games to help you in the other. That's not really a problem in ordinary double round-robins because there are so many different ways to play from the initial position in chess. However, in endgames, there's often only one correct way to proceed.
I don't know but is it possible to start a tournament here where the starting position of each game can be specified? |
It's not, no. Any attempt to organize such a tournament here would have to be done 'manually' by the players themselves. The director would have to tell player A to challenge player B to a game with initial position P, and tell B what opponent and position he should have, to make sure A doesn't cheat or make mistakes.

while I agree with Dave what follows would work.
Steve wants to master rook and pawn endings. I am nearing the completion of my first course in N and pawn endings and I want to study Bishop and pawn endings. Steve challanges me to Rook and pawn endings. He follows a book of his choice, challanges me with positions from the book and uses the book to guide his play.
Steve accepts my challlanges on bishop and pawn endgames. I use my book as a guide.
When I get to the chapter on rook and pawns I already have some exposure to the ideas becuase Steve has been demonstrating the proper way to play Rook and pawn endings. When Steve decides to study bishop endings he starts with an idea of what to do from the endings I have been challanging him with. We both become better chess players, win tournaments (standard tournaments in my case over the board) and live happily ever after.
I have demonstrated that I am committed to this plan. I am slowed by the rate at wich people select the endings I post. I need a partner or partners so I can practice more endings per week than I can submit to open games. Watching my technique could be considered an excellent free chess course by someone who wants to improve.

Wouldn't it be cleaner, quicker and more convenient all around to just play the positions you select against an engine?

my engine drips oil and produces lots of smog
I like practicing against people. also USCF experts make lots of mistakes that engines dont make. I need to learn to notice and exploit these mistakes. I have almost completed my study of night endings and I think it will make me a better otb player.
