NorocI see your point regarding c verses c3. It is possible that I am wrong. If I understand FEN notation correctly then I dont know why. is it possible to ask the F or the E personally. I think F stands for Forsythe and the E Edwards.

I got the error message ... after doing ... using Windows OS ...

Both sides could create enpassant in the same column so the FEN must indicate which one is currently active ... as there is no move history.
Edit: Sorry, that is wrong. I'm guessing it is just for clarity since it is used every time a pawn moves two squares. It will never stay the same from one move to the next this way.
Nice trick, Phys! Using an invalid position is a bit devious but good one anyhow.
