Mmm, if mild mannered people are agressive on the board, but not in daily life, this means that they have a profound need to act agressive but are inhibited in real life for doing so. Further it will be clear that there problemsolving skills reflect on the board. Human behaviour is eventually predictable because people stick to same routines in the end. I dont claim that I am able to tell your personality by looking at your game, because to do this you have to have a very good understanding of the game and I consider myself a beginner. But I believe that if you can crack the way your opponent thinks, you will have a massive advantage. So you need to get in the mind of your opponent. The only way to do this, is by looking at his play..the chessboard is his mirror..

I would say that my style is quite aggressive and excel at the attack (though sometimes a sacrifice may backfire!) my books include How to become a deadly chess tactician, how to think in chess, Think Like a grandmaster, Nimzo-Larsen attack, Aagard/Lunds right decisions (CD), Renkos course tactics and Basic chess endings by Fine. Now my technique is garbage (maybe keeping me from being 2200 +) and my openings are narrow yet widely varied so as to allow for varietal play. Allthough I can defend with some accuracy (though not too well be good enough) I prefer to attack and I don't really pay attention to positional factors aside from piece cordination and important squares and lines.

Chess style? Well, one might be able to determine styles of very strong players, such as grandmasters - their style may be somewhat set; and I suppose one could determine styles for average players who are not evolving or striving to improve their understanding of chess.
But, as old as I am, (58) I still believe I am evolving to be a stronger player than in the past. This evolution, of course, almost by definition, means that my understanding of chess is growing deeper. A very simple example is that while a novice player I played passive, defensive chess in the beginning but have become much more aggressive these days. Too, my technique, the way I handle pawns, piece play, square control, is improving.
Speaking of grandmaster styles - I like Kasparov's style of play the best. I very much like Morozevich for his tenacious play - he is a strong fighter!

That's me all over in 1 minute speed chess!
There's a movie that sums up my speed chess style: "The Good, The Bad, The Ugly"
