Also, when do you start eliminating players while the round progresses? |
Good question!
What happen if 2 players get a temporary draw because of time, and both got, lets say, 10 points, both advancing to the next round?
Then, after a while, the first round game finish with a victory of one of them, causing the score of the first round to be, lets say, 11 and 9.
What happen to the player that got only 9 points in the first round and should not be playing in the second round?
Cheers, Beco.

AH!!!
Worst of that! What happen with a player that is eliminated in the first round due to a draw by time?
After the game continue, lets say he won and then he should be in the second round! What now with the pairing system?
We should think this issues carefully.
I belive the only way to be fair, is to put in the second round EVERY player that has a little chance to be the winner (isolated or shared winner).
And then, the second round should add the points of the first round, or something like that.
Cheers, Beco.

Note that nobody gets disqualified in a swiss tournament except when you lose on time.
If a game is unfinished by the time the next round must start then both players will advance to the next round. If one of those players abandons that game after the next round started then it won't be disqualified, he/she will have to lose the game on the current round (before the next round begins) to be removed.
Reasonable?

the annual tournament should be two tournaments..those below 1600 and those above...and the 1600 should be a 1600 in the prior 60 days ( assuming that is not a programming problem )..and is there going to be a little gold crown by the winner's name with the year below it ?...and where is my Mr. Green happy face ?...

miguel, how many rounds of the swiss do you intend to conduct in the anniversary tournament? i assume you will get the highest ELO after the end of the tournament as the winner right with all participants assumed to have the same ELO at the start?
what i see a possible problem during the latter rounds when the draw is done due to time is the pairings might no longer be accurate and the system might be giving the wrong pairings that can jeopardize the results.
Assuming there are 64 players, assume 3 rounds and let say 4 in each group, the winner (best case) is a player with no losses 9-0. and with the draw pairings it could mean that he can achieve that record without facing the real "good" players in the tournament because of the wrong pairings.
What I suggest is to let the second to the last round to be completely finished before the last round begins to have the right pairings and the result will then be more accurate.
But then again, this might make the tournament a little longer.
cheers...
