Interesting stuff. But "it's not unusual," as Tom Jones would say. Who cares what little amusements some people carry on with? If they get some vicarious pleasure from "beating" "the system," for some good, lofty social purpose I can understand. But if it has no political purpose and just distorts a system designed to help all of us enjoy chess, why do it at all? The only real test for us all is that we feel confident we can defeat strong human players when the chips are down

I agree, but it does have some disadvantages, most sites have a standard of unrated players play a limited rating, that way inflation does not become a factor.
