As a former software engineer, I don't think most folks understand exactly how much work it takes to develop, maintain, and administer a site as functionally complex as QA.

Getting the (non-trivial, somewhat fuzzily-defined) rating algorithm right is only part of the problem; Miguel also has to rationalize the database (re-computing through all history in the order all the games were finished, since everybody's ratings can change on every game), and together this makes for a truly complex operation to perform on a live site. Take it from me, getting something like this right in one try just about never happens in the software world; try more like five or ten. The reason you don't see it in most commercial operations is that they have the resources to implement and test in a separate off-line environment before going live. We are Miguel's testers, and giving him friendly, constructive feedback on any change is just part of the deal for a non-profit site.

As far as money, I seriously doubt Miguel makes enough from ads (there's just not enough traffic here to generate that many impressions) plus donations (only 34 people on the list as of today) to cover all the site expenses (hardware/media/utilities), much less pay him for any of his time and effort.

So let's all just relax here where we can joke with each other about our blunders (except I never blunder, of course; ask any of my opponents!) and commiserate over our mutually lousy ratings. ;-)

My hat is fully off to Miguel. Thank you! :-)

I am both programmer and very relaxed. No problem and all the respect to Miguel.
Anyway, beside his small earnings from Adsense and donations, he can definitely make up an International party now with so much fans. :-(O)

Miguel, just don't become a tyrant over some years... :-/

Isn't this spam in a topic about "new ratings"? Ok, this is my last message in this topic! :-X

Changing or adjusting rating systems can always cause issues, you might ask miguel if it is possible because of the rating change to allow players (one time) to be allowed to have their ratings adjusted to what the player feel is correct. I am not sure if it possible or not on this system.

Just a thought....

Lightining your raiting is most likly around 18/1900 the old ratiting was wrong, I was up around 2000 but on other sites I've never made it above 1500 so my current 1600 is about right.
