In my opinion there are many types of chess master- there are real chess masters and there are hoax chess master coz they cheat . Chess rating is statistic that would tell your strength in chess if you think that a rating of 1000 is already a chess master then so be it

What rating do you need to get the title IM?

To be an IM, you need to do two things. First, you have to two `norms', which means you need to do well enough in at least two tournaments against strong enough opposition, over at least 27 games. (These don't have to be over just two tournaments: for example, three tournaments of nine games each would be OK.) Second, you need, at some point in your life to have had a FIDE rating of over 2400. There's no time limit within which you have to score the norms and achieve the rating: in theory, you could obtain your first norm aged ten, your second aged 60 and not achieve a 2400+ rating until age 90 and you'd still be eligible to become an IM at that point.
For full details of what `do well enough' and `strong enough opposition' means, see the FIDE website at
http://www.fide.com/official/handbook.asp?level=B0101
The requirements for becoming a GM are similar: two norms and a rating of at least 2500. But you have to do even better against even stronger opposition to score a GM norm.

Master is 2300 FIDE. Case closed

Does anyone know the stats. I think USCF 2200 is about 3 standard deviations above the mean. I think we should refer to players as +3.0 STD or + 0.8 STD Then we would know what percent they were in.
P.S. A master is anyone who equals or exceeds my ability.
