I have Bookup, Fritz, and Chess Assistant (the last 2 through eBay). I know I can use CA to find a particular setup, but don't know how to find a partial setup. For example, if I want to find all games in which black had pawns on c6, d6, e5 and f5 at the same time, but don't care where anything else is, how could I find games in which that setup occurred? If a different program allows that, or if a web site would help, I'd appreciate knowing it. Thanks for any help.

Tewald, if you want the basics using Fritz:

-Go to Fritz database interface and click on the "Filter" icon on top of page.
-Then click the "position" tab.
-Setup the position you want and Fritz will look for that specific setup.

But if you want more, chessbase.com has a lot of information, for example:

Database workshop. Read all of them (There are 8 or 9...), but this is a specific one for your question:
http://www.chessbase.com/workshop2.asp?id=1922

Then you can find the workshop index at bottom of this page:
http://www.chessbase.com/workshop2.asp?id=1944

Well it was long time ago when I loved studying chess, especially sacrifices setups against the castled king...No free time anymore... :-(
