I looked at that Brandt game, ouch! I've certainly felt like that before, like every move I make seems to give my opponent another great idea. :(
In the game with Ruben can I ask why you decided to 3...dxc6 instead of 3...bxc6? Having only recently taken up the Sicilian I don't know much about it and in all my games with it so far I have tended to capture with the b pawn if my opponent takes my c6 knight, so as to be able to play d5 and get a strong center. I'm terrible at studying openings, though.
I've never seen anyone play white that way against Sicilian, it seems very interesting. Any chance you and Ruben might post your notes and thoughts?

This is the Rossolimo variation which is very difficult to handle as Black. Ruben and I decided to discuss it and try to come up with ideas to play it as Black or White.
Ruben was the one that came up with that original concept and in the post mortem I offered an alternative to him that would have given White a persistent advantage. Since it was his idea it would be prudent to ask him about it because he might be saving this idea for another outing. Though, I don't have a problem disclosing the analysis I respect my opponent's views on the game and if he agrees I will be more than happy to discuss it and analyze it.
3...dxc6 was the opening move recommended by the encyclopaedia of chess openings but I understand the question: it is more common to capture towards the center. However, the light squared bishop needs to be deployed efficiently and at b7 it is just hitting a stone at the center whereas at e6 it has more scope. The open d-file is also an asset for Black where a rook can be placed preventing a d4 by White. Also, by capturing with the d-pawn instead of the b-pawn the a-pawn is not weakened. This structure is very similar to a Ruy Lopez exchange where Black captures dxc6 instead of bxc6. In fact, the Rossolimo could very well be studied cojointly with the Ruy Lopez exchange.
Brandt is elite... A very good player with whom I don't mind losing I learned a lot about that game in the accelerated dragon... Though, I need to repair my openings this christmas because I was thrashed badly (or almost) by Ruben and Brandt...

Thanks, I'm terrible at openings, now I understand the 3...dxc6 and it makes a lot of sense that way.
Yes, I certainly understand keeping the analysis under wraps. Take care and happy holidays!

I think black could make a draw by playing accurately. You are right you are a pawn in front, but it's quite useless in the end

This is in regards to the game I lost against Brandt? I haven't had the courage to analyze it carefully so I don't know I was too discouraged after that lost
