It´s not a "book". But you can find many chess stuff for free. Also, you could always "google" for it.

I had downloaded some e-books long ago, some studies of endgames and some on chessstrategies, one on Middle game, I really appreciate the books by Kasprov titled 'TEst of time' and 'Kasprov teaches chess', some of the former books were published in 40`s and 50`s so the notation is BxR5 type(i dont know the name of the notation).ALL of them r in pdf format.
Tell me about ur choice and all i can do is to send u by e-mail.

I have one oldie classic by Julius du Mont, "The basis of combination in Chess" in pdf format. Based on the year it was written, 1938, I guess it's already in public domain.
It's in a fac-simile (image) format, and for this reason the file is a little big (18MB), but if anyone is interested, I could upload it to a site.
