i want to play french defence as black. so i go to wikipedia article on fen, copy:
rnbqkbnr/pppppppp/8/8/4P3/8/PPPP1PPP/RNBQKBNR b KQkq e3 0 1
then create open game, paste fen. i make sure rated game box has tick. but when i start game, its unrated.

You can only create unrated games when using FEN.
Rated games must start from the initial position.
This is so, because one cannot assure the game is well balanced when creating from a set up position.
One way I imagine Miguel could let us play rated games from different openings is to have some of them checked for equality and registered, so we could create a game not from FEN, but from a drop-down list of openings.
