I have a question about the elo points variation on this site.

I read in the FAQ that after a game, the new rating for a player winning a game is given by :

New rating = Old rating+ 0,04 * ( elo difference) + 16

Now... I just won against Gambit and right before his resignation our ratings were

mine = 2397
his = 2562

so... new rating = 2397 + ( 0,04 *165) +16 = 2419

I get instead a new rating of 2409

where am I wrong in understanding the formula?
SHould I consider an elo difference of - 165 ???

but if yes... why ? I was the lower one...
thanks for explaining !
