In many time zones the clocks will skip an hour tonight. At 2am March 11, 2012 the clocks jump to 3 am. This means that 2:30 am does not occur. If someone has been pressuring you for weeks to set a time to do something that you dont want to do, you should tell that if at 2:30 am 3/11/2012 they repeat thier request you will do it. If you are 10 years old and your parents say, "You knew that was wrong when you did it and that means you are
going to be spanked? When do you want to be spanked. 2:30 am 3/11/12 might be a good choice.
In the fall we set our clocks back an hour. This has caused confusion once in my life and I had an opportunity to exploit it once. These 3 stories are true. On one occasion I had to catch a bus at 1:30 am. I called the bus company and asked which 1:30 am will the bus come. They said 1:30 AM. I said Yes, but is it the first 1:30 AM or the second 1:30 AM. After I explained that 1:30 am would occur twice becuase at 2 am we set the clocks back an hour they told me that they did not know which 1:30 am. I had to ask if the bus left a city 90 minutes earlier on its route at midnight. They said yes. Then I asked is the bus going to stop any where for an hour to accomondate the time change. When she said no I knew to catch the bus at the first 1:30 am. When I got to my destination the clocks said I arrived an hour before the scheduled arrival.
On another occassion I was studying in the late night study center that closed at 2am. When security arrived at 1:59 and and told me I had to leave, I started packing up my books and putting them in back pack. 2 minutes later I told them that it was only 1:01 am. They were not amused and tolld me to go home.
There was a third occassion that I had 3 hours to do a take home graduate physics exam. We had the weekend and we got to choose the 3 hours. We had to write the start time and the time we finished on the test. I started at 12:15 am on the sunday morning in the fall that the clocks get set bat an hour. At 2:15 am I had finished the test. I had actuauly used 3 hours but at first glance it appeared that I had only used 2 hours. If I had take a fourth hour the professor could have lowered my grade for using 4 hours but he could not have accused me of acedemic dishonesty. Both start time of 12:15 am and 3:15 am would have been true statements. Physics professors are not easily tricked so I limited myself to 3 hours. I asked him about this. He said he selected the weekend the clocks change on purpose and would have allowed the 4th hour without penalty as a reward for being clever.
One year I asked miguel how the changing of clocks would affect time forfiets on QA. He told me that the official time of each move is Univerasl Time and Universal Time does not observe settng the clocks back an hour in the fall or ahead an hour in the spring.
One year I asked the manager of a bank, "You know how we saved an hour one sunday morning last spring when we set our clocks ahead an hour, can we get that hour back in the fall with nterest." I think he was related to the security guard. He told me to go home.

I found your anecdotes interesting, phys. I just didn't have a useful comment having never had a similar experience. This will become more and more of a problem as we shift away from traditional work hours. Then again, perhaps at such time, daily saving time will be abolished as it affects a smaller and smaller percentage of the population. You would think that at least the bus company would have a standard approach in place during those times.

Folks, This ineffable dunce, (phystutordotcom), has nothing to say and says it with a liberal embellishment of bad delivery, embroidering it with reasonless vulgarities of attitude, gesture and attire.
