I'm not exactly sure how all of this works, but it seems like the ads I get when playing at home are better targeted that those I get playing at work. At work I sometimes get ads for local businesses (e.g. car retailers) in far away cities. So my takeaway is that the ads chosen are based on something other than my own profile. This might be what is happening when using a school computer. As for which ads have the blue triangle and X and which don't, I'm not sure. Are the "play free" ads referred to online fantasy games featuring alluring barbarian women? I certainly get a lot of those, and don't think I've ever done anything that would suggest I'd be interested. Maybe that's just what the world thinks chess players are like. I'm pretty sure that they usually have the X though, as I know I've used it at work. Hey, are there any female readers out there who can tell us what kind of ads you are presented with?
