Topic: How does Message to Opponent work?

It's such a bizarre poorly interfaced feature.
When I type a message, I noticed I can hit enter and the page seems to refresh and the message is gone.
Did that send a message to their inbox? Or does it pop up in the game?
Or did it send nothing at all and it's just that if the field is populated when I move then they see it in game. Or in their inbox.
One last question, why isn't it made clearer how it works?

Isn't their a message log/history somewhere in the game layout? Otherwise your sent message should appear under your messages with an indication of them having read or not read your sent message.

yes just below the move and resign button you can find all messages of the current game
I love the message feature, no need to press a send message button. Just make a move and the message will be sent automatically.

A now defunct competitor had messages that originated in games also sent to the PM system. PM originated messages were only sent to the games if that option was allowed.
