What is a CC player. In correspondence chess one may legally use books and computer data bases as aids. One may not use computer analysis or help from another player. A new term , the net player, does not use these aids but still moves the pieces around the board before making the move . Both may coexist and play each other . It would be interesting to have two ratings , one as a net player and one as a CC player. It is an honor system now in CC and could be the same in net. Also it would be nice to see an icon beside each player's name for CC or net or both. Just something new I have never seen anywhere else.

The difference between a CC and a net player is not very clear to me.

A net player could be allowed to check game databases and/or books, I actually do not prohibit that on this site (should I?). Game engines and advice from other players is, on the other side, strictly prohibited.

A CC player can easily try ideas on the board, pretty much in the same way it is done in this site, in fact many CC players load their games on an email chess software (ECTool, etc.) to do that.

I do like the idea, however, of having a play modality in which the Analyze mode (soon to be renamed to Think Mode btw) is not available. This can be easily enforced by the software, and could be interesting to some players. I personally use this feature a lot, and would welcome the opportunity to play without it if I know my opponent is not using it either.

A net player does not use any help from anyone or anything Just his brain. He does not use books or data bases or computer analysis. Like the CC player he is allowed to move the pieces around on the board before making a move.
The CC player of course can legally use books or computer data bases but should not use the analysis function of a computer chess program or receive help from another player.

Interesting discussion. I think the temptation for a romote player in turn based chess to test his moves on another chess board is to great to expect it won´t happen. That is why these "think modes" must have come about. On the other hand using a chess engine to assist one´s playing is never defendable unless the game is intended to be between "human assisted computers". Of course it can be tried to have venues where no aids are accepted but personally I would not count on it.
