When having a look at the member list, I recognized that half of the established members of this site are rated above 2000 (!)

OK, it is for sure nicer for members to be overrated then to be underrated (like on 2 other major corr. sites where people are 200 points below their FIDE rating).

But isn`t this by far exaggerated that the average player on this server shall be rated 2000 (you meet so many 1800 players on this server who easily blunder full pieces away!)?

I would guess this only gets worse and worse, because new players, upon defeating an (over-rated) existing player, get an abnormally high initial rating themselves! Maybe it would be better to start all new players off at an arbitrary figure (maybe the average of all players ratings)...

i know that my rating on this site way overvalues
my ability to play...i am quite mediocre yet i

I am also to high here on ELO as many others..on the famous server ICC I was most rated 2420..but mostly playin on 2300 or so (but this was in blitz).
Here should chance some startin rules for new players like they should only playin theyr first game/games to low rated 1500 for example and a new player should never get more than 100-200 ELO more than his opponet if he wins.
Good rule would be also that new player should start in tournament with the lowest rating.

The QA are based on a international ranking system for correspondence chess. Take a look in other topics and you will find the link for the official page of this rules.
