Hey guys, some curious numbers to think about:
According to the United Nations (UN) and the
United States Census Bureau,
(http://www.census.gov/)
(http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/World_population)
the world population in 2005 was
6,453,628,000 (aprox. 6.5 billion).
And (copied):
"According to the International Programs Center, U.S. Bureau of the Census, the total population of the World, projected to 07/26/06 at 13:29 GMT (EST+5) is
6,530,713,063"
And according to "Internet World Stats",
(http://www.internetworldstats.com/stats.htm)
there are only 1,043,104,886 that uses internet in the world, that means 16% of the world population.
Brazil, with a stimated population of 184,284,898
has only 25,900,000 users, that means 14.1% of brazilians have access.
But what we are not used to think is the opposite. Simple calculation give us that there are
5,487,608,177 (5,5 billions) of people in the world that do NOT have access to internet!
And that, my dear chess players, is almost 85%!!!
Brazil, unlikelly its economy and inner problems, is the 10th country in the world in number of internet users, behind, in order, to
(position-country, users / percentage of pop.)

Well, restricting about orkut, the site dont give absolute numbers, but searching at wikipedia
(http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Orkut)
we can see that in September/2004 it surpassed the 2,000,000 mark (all users), and in June/2005 3% of Brazil population was registered users.
That means that, in June/2005, the stats for orkut are:
Total:
8,251,563 / 0,12% of world pop. (far less then 1%)
Brazil:
5,528,547 / 0,085% of world pop
US:
990,188 / 0,015% of world pop

Now I would like to know how many people in the world play chess, and what is the percentage registered in queen alice? And in that amount of persons, what is the percentage of them who read the topics, and inside this how many do have orkut.
