Yet another proof that automatic translation tools shouldn't be trusted for anything important! :-)

The classic example came from an EU policy document, which contained the French phrase, ``les bureaucrats vis à vis les agricols'', meaning ``the bureaucrats, with respect to the farmers''. One automatic translation was:

les bureaucrats=the bureaucrats (correct)
vis=live (je vis=I live, from vivre)
à=to (as in, ``Je vais à Paris'')
vis=screw (as used with a screwdriver)
les agricols=the farmers (correct)

Hi friend!

I've heard about this site quite often, surely it must have a good reputation. May worth a look.

Thanks ;-)

For simple words I use:
http://translate.google.com/translate_t

But only translate whole sequence if you really dont know english.

A good way to check the monstrous translations this sites gives is to translate to and back again some language.

For example:
Portuguese: oi,e a sua vez. obrigado. luiz
English: oi, and its time. debtor. Luiz
Portuguese again: oi, e seu tempo. devedor. Luiz

Inverse:
English: Hi, it's your turn. Thanks. Luiz
Portuguese: Hi, é sua volta. Obrigado. Luiz
English again: Hi, is its return. Debtor. Luiz

Now you can see! It is incredible wrong! And that was simple sentences... Try one bigger and you will get some miracles!

Cheers,
Beco.
