And there's the minor point that Anand is currently top of the FIDE rating list by a considerable margin (23 points).
Anand is only 37, which corresponds to Kasparov in 2000, Karpov in 1988, Spassky in 1974 and Larsen in 1972. OK, all were past their best by that age but all were still formidable players, with Kasparov and Karpov only just losing World Championship matches at around that age. Spassky was getting deep into the candidates' process and Larsen had a fantastic run in tournaments up to the age of about 36.
