You will enjoy reading obsene use of vacation by doran. There are many interesting replies.
Given site rules the best way to use vacation is as little as possible, as late as possible and frequently if necessary. So, if you log on everyother day it is best to use 2 days of vacation when you have less than 2 days in one game.
Vacation days are similiar to the 14 in 1d/m + 14, but they apply to all your games.
We SHOULD continue to allow players to move on vacation. To forbid this would delay the completion of games and would result in more time defaults. I also agree with Doran that vacation days should be addded to opponents clock as well.
I may benifit from Doran's advice. I am playing over 100 games at 10d/a. If I get into time trouble I will use one vacation day at a time. I will also reduce my game total. His advice allow me to test how many games I can handle at once. At present my opponents are using twice as much time as I am. If they start to use vacation days I may need to use mine for defense. That is why one should use as few days as possible.

phystutordotcom: well, reading your post made me pretty sure that we shouldnt be allowed to move while in vacation. :) Vacation is to be used when you'll get no access to the site, not to improve your time limits.
So, a game at 10d/a would be freezed for one or two days if the player is on vacation. That would solve, I'm pretty sure...

Dear Andrea!
I not only agree with you, but more than that I made this suggestion somewhere else here!
Cheers, Beco.

I totally disagree :( I don't see the point? Why would one have to take 1 day of vacation at the time, every single day of his time trouble IN HIS REAL LIFE? Why should someone add one more thing to him to think about? What is the purpose of this site: playing good chess or making stupid rules? It's not like someone who starts a game now, will know how much free time he'll have next month(s). And when he finally finds some time to play the moves, he's vacation is stopped? Does he loses vacation time that he scheduled, or he just have to schedule left days again ??? You lost me... :)

Hi GileCAR,
I don't see anyone suggesting that vacations must be made one day at time. Who said that, please? (Also, I dont agree)
What I suggest (and I think I interpret Andrea's suggestion right) is:
* You can ask any amount of time you want for vacations, limited to your maximum you already used. * During the vacations, go to a trip, go ride horses, go swimming, but don't come back trying to play because your pieces will not move. (You can come back to read the forums if you want) * If you try to move, your vacations is NOT canceled. Your pieces simple don't move. Your games freeze. * Your opponents can move while you are in vacations, of course, but you cannot reply. * This done, if you are in time trouble, you cannot use vacations to skip your time trouble. Because you will need to wait your vacations to finish before making your move, and you will get yourself in the same time trouble you was just before the vacations started.
Cheers, Beco
