The means you were joking, right?
Not exactly greenbishop, think of where the game would be today if Bobby Fischer had not influenced the chess community/world.Bobby Fischer brought with him big purse's to the games he played, and also big media coverage. He was a symbol of nationalism to the american people when he played the unbeatable russians (although that wasn't important to him, thats where the additude came into play ).
It's very possible that this site and many others of its kind might not exist if it wasnt for the "Boom" he brought with him into the game. How many everyday people would know the name Karpov, or Cappablanca if it was spoken on the streets. There are many great players of the game in our history, but i think Bobby is the most influential. Before you get so hyper-critical about something, sit and look at the big picture. I don't think my comment "Bobby Fischer is chess" is as much of an un-realistic as you think it to be.

I always have and always will respect his games and only his games.
alib2004, I would like to know what your definition of embarrassing is? I would say that the most famous chess player ever going around and saying outrageous and offensive things is pretty embarrassing for chess. Chess players still suffer from the stereotype of being weird and Fischer only confirms this.

Ryan, Fischer was good for chess up through 1972 and the "boom" he created certainly had great effects. However, we can't ignore all the damage he has done since then by saying or doing one crazy thing after another. And, I will also add that if Fischer had his way, Ryan, he would destroy and get rid of the game we love with that God-awful FRC.
