It was a very sad day for the Netherlands this Monday.
After a flashing start of my team, two victory,s within the first 10 days of the tournament, by Harold and Kamu, and the first spot at the moment, our first board player lost, after making 2 moves, on time. She lost 1 game, but the Netherlands lost 7 games!
And we lost much more then that. We lost also the hope for a good classification, we lost believe in team-spirit and yes, also a bit interest.
I feel very sorry for Harold and Kamu, that this could happen. I am sure, knowing the fighting spririt of this guys, that they will do their best untill the end. Head-up!
Why do I write this?
For you to feel sorry for Holland? No. I just want to bring to the players attention what could happen. The tournament has just started. Realize you are not playing just for yourself, but also for your team. I case of doubt, if you are not sure you can make your moves on time, add a few vacation days.

2nd.EDITION OF THE NATIONAL TEAM CHAMPIONSHIP 2009

As the first edition is on its way, and results were made already, it is time to decide the set-up for the second championship.

A total of 43 teams, from 36 different countries, take part this time. As there are countries with enough players, which do not take part this time, it could be more for the second edition.

For the 2nd.National Team Championship 2009, I would like to make Divisions of 20 teams each.
That way the tournament, with 5 rounds only, should most likely finish in about a year.
The first Division shall be the group who compete for the championship. The second and third Divisions compete for promotion.
The amount of teams could be unlimited this way, without taking more time to finish the tournament.
Each country can compete with more then one team, but a total of maximum 3 B. teams can compete in the first group.

For the 2009 edition;

2nd.National Team Championship Divisions A,B,C,D,E

20 Teams, 5 Boards.
5 Rounds Swiss-system.
No.1 - 14 from the first edition.
No.1 - 2 from the B.Group of the first edition.
* if one of those 2 teams is a B.team, No.3 promotes as well.
2 National teams with the highest rating.
2 Wild Cards (or 1 if a B.team promotes)

2nd.National Team Championship Divisions F,G,H

20 Teams, 3 Boards
5 Rounds Swiss-System.
15-24 of the first edition.
3/4-10/11 from the B.Group of the first edition.
2 wild cards/highest rating

2nd.National Team Championship Divisions I,J,K

All other teams and new teams (which won,t be placed higher because of their rating)

All mentioned above is open for discussion!

And a Happy New Year to all of you,
Leo

I would like to suggest to bring the time-control
for the second edition of the championship back to
3 Days/Move with an additional Time-bank of 7 Days.

PLEASE NOTE :

At the classification table, the scores of the matches
from the second, third and fourth round of the players
who lost their first game on time, are already included:

Netherlands 4p. out of 3 games +3 = 4/6 (Board 1)
New Zealand 2p. out of 2 games +3 = 2/5 (Board 2)
Philipinnes 0p. out of 1 game +3 = 0/4 (Board 1)

Hi Alexandre,
I am afraid that replacing eagacunha is only possible after the 4th.round. The server finishes tournaments after they got started, without any possibility of interference.
Brazil is still lucky, that eagacunha played in the only group, which started the 2nd.round already, and together with Spike, he is the only player who won his both games untill now. His other 2 games are going to be lost. But still a score of 2 out of 4.
And don`t forget, Brazil is not the only one. My own team, "the Netherlands", lost 4 games in the first week, as our first boardplayer, Natacha, just made 2 moves, and then run out of time already!
The Philippines and New Zealand are the other countries, who lost a player already.
I know, the case of eagacunha is different, but there is simply nothing we can do.

You are welcome, by beco`s absense, to come-up with a substitute for eagacunha, for the 5th.,6th. and 7th. round, if Lukius and gbsalvio reach the second stage.
[which still should not be to difficult for them, to get by the first four in their group, with the 50% score of eagacunha]
But I think, you, and Brazil, have got still plenty of time to decide what to do.
