Why not just set it up so the game gives each player say 60 days total time.
If the game goes over 40 moves you could give extra time if that is possible

That's a fine idea for the next anniversary tournament, but you can't change the rules of the existing tournament mid-stream. --p

Hi Miguel,
Just wondering if this can be done ...
I note the current QA tournament is coming to its 3rd month in about 10 days time, and there are only 2 outstanding games. Without knowing the 4 players involved, nor wishing to prejudicely comment or analyse both games at this stage, I think it is safe to say that both games are being fought hard, the first is now at move 23, the other at move 49. I wouldn’t be surprised if one or both games can continue for some time. However, the other (180+?) players are still waiting to play their next round… So, I have a suggestion (hopefully it’s implementable) to help speed along Round 2 without compromising the wishes of the 4 players who are still fighting hard in their games.
The suggestion involves 2 steps and a condition:
Step 1 – Obtain the 4 players conditional consent to commence Round 2 on say 5 Sep 2005 (3 month mark, or another agreed date), whilst their games are still being fought.
Step 2 – Start pairing for Round 2 after receiving the 4 players consent.
The condition is to assume, for pairing purposes only, that both games are drawn, so that they’ll meet other drawn players (or as close as possible, following Swiss pairing rules), whereas their actual score on the other hand reflects actual result which won’t be known yet.
Of course any one of the 4 players could rightly object – in which case, it would be helpful if the objecting player could indicate whether he thinks he is winning/losing and whether his opponent agrees with him or not. If both are in agreement, then, the next round pairing can use this interim score. If there is no agreement (eg both players think they are both losing! or both winning!) then, assume it’s a draw just for pairing purposes. Most importantly, the final scores will only reflect the actual result when the games end, so, this will help Round 2 to start.
The only condition I would impose is that this approach is not used at Round 7 (where it could upset Round 8 pairing and the final score, and there is no Round 9 to catch up).
There is no point to consider this if systems cannot handle, so, what do you say Miguel?
How about comments from the 4 players concerned?
If there is no consensus nor not implementable, then, I hope this suggestion has not caused any harm to anyone.
Cheers and be happy!

The above suggestion would involve a lot of work for the administrator of this free site. Certainly future tournaments will be structured differently
