I hope this will add to the discussion:
When you play rated chess against a player with a significantly higher rating than yours and score a draw (by draw I mean any of those "stale" wins you've been going on about in the forums), you are awarded points toward your rating while the more highly rated player gets points deducted. It is in this way that scoring a draw earns a reward for cleverness in that you avoided complete defeat (checkmate) at the hands of a player who should have eaten your lunch.

No. That just adds to the confusion. You refer first to stalemate and then to "avoiding checkmate" (all draws). It's probably best if you all go away and think about the game a little more deeply. You never know, the penny might just drop.
Also, check how the rating system here works.

Draws of any kind always score 1/2 point; however, the ratings change as I mentioned before.

But he makes no sense. How can that be of any value?
A draw is a draw, and scoring them against stronger opponents will be reflected in the ratings.
