I sincerely don't understand what's the dig deal with ratings even more when we are not playing for money here... Instead of ratings why don't we worry about working or enjoying the game in such a way that we learn something about each and every game? So far I have learned that one of my favorite variations in my favorite opening is sub-optimal  That single game spared me grief and pain over the board... Isn't that more important?
