Miguel,

Without making reference to other rating systems. We have seen that the ratings can be abused at www.queenalice.com by inscrupulous players. My porposal was centered into adding some controls to the current rating system in such a way that it will cost the player a representative number of games and opponents to earn a provisional rating. Afterwards, when 75 games are completed the rating will be fully established. The other suggestion was to calculate rating changes every month...

In my opinion, requiring ridiculous amounts of games to be played will not stop cheaters. If you need 75 games to fake a rating, someone WILL play 75 games against bogus users to achieve it. Meanwhile, most players here will not have any kind of rating, which makes playing quite useless since you can't track your progress. Furthermore, not everyone has the time to complete 75 games in any reasonable period of time.

Let the cheaters be cheaters. Any of us could use a computer to help with chess moves, any of us could create fake accounts and play games to boost our ratings (I'd like to think many of us would be smarter than the three move checkmate, but apparently this may be a bad assumption). These are not happy people, these are people with their priorities completely screwed up. Forget about them. We've spent way too much time even giving thought to them.

At the most, challenge them to a game and kick their ass. Beyond that, ignore them. We'll know who they are.

And on top of all said by azaris and Pestilence, it takes me just one click to disable an account, there is not way for abusers to cause any lasting harm.

I have read in a handful of places that a player's cc rating should be about 250-300 points higher then his otb rating. Of course many cc players who play it online at sites like this don't really take advantage of the opportunities that cc offers and so their ratings aren't that different.
