Ratings are a performance tool only. I agree with the having fun part--- BUT---I am here to win; as you will see very shortly, I ask for not one quarter. AND, I will give you less than a cent. e2cp

How did the question turn into a rating discussion? But to answer the question at hand; I am not officially rated

I am provisional myself. My USCF rating is provisional. I played five or six tournament games at my local chess club and lost every game! Most of the players there are close to master level, way too strong for me!!!!

I have a USCF rating of 1100 from playing six OTB games last year (my first, and I lost all of them, the players ratings were 1500-1900 - too high for me to get a chance to win.). Since I am a beginner, my rating will fluxuate until I have played enough games. I believe OTB games are rated slightly lower, compared to CC games. Ultimately, both ratings should be close if you play about the same as you would Over The Board. For example, if you set up a board and ponder your next move within one or two minutes with your CC games, then this should bring you close to your OTB level. But, if you spend more time thinking on a move, then your rating can also move up higher than your OTB rating. As far as Ulf Andersson's comment, well, somebody has to lose in order for someone to win! Unless CC games are all 1/2 1/2, if you get my point.
