Gil is a friend of mine, so I'm going to leave O to conduct any spat (even if it is [seems to be] a light-hearted one!).
In fact, I'm a francophile, and if anyone was offended, or came way with the idea that I'm a francophobe, I apologise. If I joined in with O's joshing, it was entirely light-hearted on my part.
I think we sometimes use the smiley too often, and this makes it more difficult to work out if we are being ironic, or smiling/laughing at our own so-called cleverness and actually just falling in with an unjust prejudice.

More generally, I worked my way through the posts I missed in the various forums, and if I wasn't often moved to post back ... well, that doesn't mean I wasn't interested in some of what you had to say!

Interesting. I was accused way back of not using these enough. So I started to do so more often.

Really, it would be pretty dull around here if one had to spell out every single point, subtlety and intention of one's posts.
