Is it OK to have multiple identities on this site? I ask because there is this one player who really bugged me in the way he played. He did nothing illegal but I would have avoided him in the future if I could. Now I find I'm playing him again only under a different name.

It seems to happen, that's for sure. But you may simply be unlucky to encounter the same style of play in different opponents.
For example, I often run into this player who always waits to move until he/she/it is down below two days or less left out of seven, even in the early opening phase, forced exchanges or mate-in-two situations.
Then there is this utterly infuriating guy who plays on well beyond the point of being dead lost. What motivates this player - masochism, some twisted version of the ol' Fighting Spirit, trying to capture one last pawn before going under? Or is it something more sinister, like the hope I might suddenly encounter some personal tragedy before I can make my next move?
But the answer to your question is only a couple of minutes away! Just log onto QA, try to create a new identity for yourself, and see what happens! -Oh, and do post your findings here! You're not the only one curious about this matter...
Cheers, F. (and his alter egos?)

I'm pretty sure the answer to "Is it OK?" is no. I think Manuel has mentioned in the past that it is not allowed. Of course, it would be pretty impossible to police this completely. I suppose that he could check to see if the same computer is being used, but that would be unfair to families with one computer where more than one member wants to play here. If he goes by email address...many (most?) of us have more than one email address.

Dangerous advice.
Multiple accounts are a no-no. Yes, this has been discussed before (surprise!) and there are numerous cases on the site. If you strongly suspect a member is using more than one account then I suggest you contact Miguel.

I'd feel a bit sneaky reporting him to Miguel because the real reason would be that he'd annoyed me so much rather than him abusing multiple identities. As far as I know he hasn't done anything really bad, like play himself, nor is he trying to hide anything. Maybe the best thing for me is to send him a message after we've finished playing.
For the record what he's doing that so annoys me is playing at a reasonable rate until he gets a lost position, then instead of resigning carrying on playing at exactly seven days per move for the rest of the game. One of my games I think it's going to take the best part of this year to checkmate, even though the game is completely won.
