In the town where I live there are two pubs almost opposite each other. One is 'The Bull' and the other is 'The Cock'. Years ago they were coaching inns and as a form of entertainment in the evenings travellers were encouraged to tell stories, the best winning a drink. The more unbelievable the story the better. These tales became known locally as 'Cock and Bull' stories. True.
