No, it's a test of who's making the best use of their software. Suppose that, after a couple of days, your computer has analysed to 20 ply. Even if you give it another two days, it'll only see one more ply -- not a massive advantage. So the skill is in directing the computer as to which lines it should consider, to avoid lines that simplify into bad endgames and so on.
Even relatively weak humans can consistently beat computers at correspondence chess. For example, Arno Nickel (FIDE rating 2101) has a +2=1-0 record against Hydra at correspondence chess.
