No, playing a correspondence game with computer assistance is nothing like playing an over-the-board game with computer assistance. Just like playing a correspondence game without a computer is nothing like playing an over-the-board game without a computer.

Richerby, I am happy to read you and this clarified way of thinking.
There are modalities of chess games, other than the old-fashioned.

People that make confusion of this are always who think someone is in advantage because the mix of two modalities.

When people play fair chess, both know the rules, both use the same tools (brain, machines, team play, whatever), and no one can complain.

No, it's a test of who's making the best use of their software.

Some interesting links:

Ivan Bern, the world correspondence chess player, by ICC, recognized by feed says in this interview:

Bern, himself a strong OTB player, is the only FIDE-IM in the field. Deeper
understanding of chess and OTB playing strength lead to a more critical attitude
towards the computers. Several of the games demonstrated that you couldn’t blindly
trust the computer programs. I discovered that an opponent who consistently followed the computer’s first choice. That gave me a belief in victory, because in reality I only had to
see a bit further than the computer. Fritz alone doesn’t stand a chance against Bern & Fritz!

Haha richerby: Please, forgive my hyperbole, it's not like playing over-the-board with and without a computer, however I do think that using such software sort of spoils the game.

Where's the fun in playing the same game somebody else played, just because they won? Playing from software stifles the innovations and creativity of chess -- are you going to try something new if a program tells you 88.43% of all people who played something different won their games? I'm not saying there's a whole ocean of moves to choose from, just that using the software makes the game boring and mundane!

Just for the record, I do use QA, however only to even the human + computer vs human fight to a human + computer vs human + computer fight.

if you really want to improve then i think it is still best for you to do it on your own rather than having a computer aid. And btw, i think there were already initial topics on this where it was heavily criticized and even asking for the expulsion of players known to use the aid of computer during games. let's be fair to everyone as not everyone is at the level that can play a computer chess
